March Brookside Briefs and Healthy Hints

The month of March starts with our continuation of Read Across America activities and ends our second trimester grading period.  There are lots of activities planned for the coming month including PTA events like :  Art Night, Grade 3 & 4 Night Out, and BINGO for Grades 1 and 2.  There will be the annual “Are You Smarter than a Cranford/ Garwood 5th Grader?” community event and the Grade 5 Volleyball game.

Principal’s Back To School Brookside Briefs

2019-2020 School Year Important Dates
  1.  You can find Mr. Klimko’s Brookside Briefs for September by clicking Briefs Aug-Sept Opening Day 2019-2020
  2. The start times for all Single Session days (there are 8 on the calendar) will now be the same as the start time each day. Bells will ring at 8:34 AM and students will enter the building at 8:35 AM.
  3. Also with the Single Session days, the kindergarten classes will work on an alternating basis across the 8 days. The schedule as per Dr. Rubin’s letter home is as
    follows.

    **Kindergarten single sessions will alternate between AM & PM classes according to the following schedule: 10/14 (AM), 11/27 (PM), 12/20 (AM), 2/10 (PM), 3/30 (AM), 6/19 (PM), 6/22 (AM), 6/23 (PM).

  4. For the Drop Off Zone along Brookside Place by the second grade door, there will be one reserved parking spot for one of our second grade families. The spot will be the one just passed the Drop Off Zone sign closer to Willow Street and the small tree planted along the curb on Brookside Place. Thanks to all for keeping that spot open each morning.

  5. Student Orientations are planned for Wednesday, September 4th at 2:00 PM for all incoming first grade students (including those who attended Kindergarten at BPS during 2018-2019) and at 3:00 PM for all NEW students to BPS entering grades 2-5.
  6. The first day of school is Thursday, September 5th and is a full day as are the remaining days of the first week.
  7. The BPS PTA will host a Welcome Back Coffee for parents/guardians after the bell on the first day of school (9/5).  The BPS PTA website is also a great resource for Back to School information. Visit: bpspta.digitalpto.com
  8. Back to School Night is on Thursday, September 19th starting at or close to 6:30 PM.
